“14 The Lord said to Abram, after Lot had separated from him, ‘Now lift up your eyes and look from the place where you are, northward and southward and eastward and westward; 15 for all the land which you see, I will give it to you and to your descendants forever. 16 I will make your descendants as the dust of the earth, so that if anyone can number the dust of the earth, then your descendants can also be numbered. 17 Arise, walk about the land through its length and breadth; for I will give it to you.” 18 Then Abram moved his tent and came and dwelt by the oaks of Mamre, which are in Hebron, and there he built an altar to the Lord.” // Genesis 13:14-18

God was about to build a nation through Abraham. God declared this, and Abraham believed God even though, at his age, it was biologically impossible. The nation God would build through Abraham was Israel. One of Abraham’s descendants, Jesus, would become the Savior of all those who put their faith in Him. God wants to give us an inheritance, also. And although God still gives physical descendants and does multiply them, consider the blessing of spiritual descendants. The mission that God has given us is to tell others about Jesus, disciple them, and keep repeating the process as God multiplies these spiritual descendants across the globe.

As Abraham needed land to allow his physical descendants to expand, God often leads churches to make space for the spiritual expansion of disciples. Buildings and campuses are not always God’s plan, but oftentimes they are. I am thankful for those who have gone before us at FBC Mandeville, as God used them to provide our current facilities. The facilities are tools in His hand that He uses for His mission of multiplying disciples

FBC Mandeville has a history of sacrificially providing space for more disciples. Founded in 1878, FBCM met in a few locations before building its first building on Coffee Street in 1949. FBCM continued to expand at that location until 1982, when the church purchased land and moved to its present location. Since that time, FBCM has continued to follow the Lord in expanding its campus to make room for you and me!

  • Pray and thank God for the believers at FBC Mandeville, who, since 1878, have worked hard and given generously for the mission of making disciples on the Northshore
  • Pray and ask God to show our Long-Range Planning Team and the rest of us exactly what He would have us do to prepare for continued growth.
  • Thank the Lord that He always wants more individuals to enter into a relationship with Himself – people like you and me!
  • Can you join us tonight at Wednesday’s First Priority as we call on Him as a church at 6:30pm in the worship center?
