21 Your ears will hear a word behind you, “This is the way, walk in it,” whenever you turn to the right or to the left. 22 And you will defile your graven images overlaid with silver, and your molten images plated with gold. You will scatter them as an impure thing, and say to them, “Be gone!” // Isaiah 30:21-22

This is one of my favorite images in the Bible. Can you see God leaning right up behind your ear, and as you turn your head to see a certain path, God lovingly whispers, “That’s it. Right there. Go that way!” All the false gods demand that their followers work hard for a small hope that they will go to heaven, but those so-called gods are distant and impersonal (and don’t exist!). The Creator God loves us so much that He longs to walk right beside us, allowing us to know Him well. It reminds me of what the Bible says about Enoch: “He walked with God . . .” What a beautiful picture; knowing God so deeply that it is like we are walking together with the God of all creation! The offer is ours for the taking! And Isaiah goes on to say that the natural result of experiencing God in this way is that we will want to have nothing to do with the things that draw us away from our God. Compared with the chance to have close fellowship with God, the sin of the world is worse than meaningless.

  • Thank God that He allows you to know Him personally, closer than any other relationship in your life.
  • Ask God to create in you a heart that longs to spend time with Him.
  • Pray that God will give you a desire to throw away the things of the world and cling tightly to Him.
