5 But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him. 6 But he must ask in faith without any doubting, for the one who doubts is like the surf of the sea, driven and tossed by the wind. 7 For that man ought not to expect that he will receive anything from the Lord, 8 being a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways. // James 1:5-8
Do you need wisdom? I sure do! I love that God invites us to ask Him! He isn’t too busy. He isn’t distant. He loves it when we turn to Him for all our needs. Why does James warn against doubt? Because sometimes, in our quest for wisdom, God’s answer sounds contrary to the way we think. God says to become a servant to others and put their needs ahead of yours, and that makes us concerned that we will lose power in our relationships. God says to spend more time praying, and we already feel too busy. God says to forgive people who do us wrong, and that makes us feel like we are condoning what they did to us. God says to honor Him with our tithes and offerings, and we already feel like we don’t have enough money. So, the joy in life comes in those times that God leads me by His Word and through prayer, and when I say “yes” to Him. One place to start learning God’s wisdom is to read the book of Proverbs in the Bible.
- Pray and thank God that He offers His wisdom to us.
- Ask God for wisdom regarding some of the current situations in your life.
- Ask God to help you say “yes” to Him even though you may have doubts.
- Can you join us tonight at Wednesday’s First Priority as we call on Him as a church at 6:30pm in the Worship Center?
