3 Trust in the Lord and do good; Dwell in the land and cultivate faithfulness.
4 Delight yourself in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart.
5 Commit your way to the Lord, Trust also in Him, and He will do it.
6 He will bring forth your righteousness as the light and your judgment as the noonday.
// Psalm 37:3-6
I love the straightforward instructions in verse three: trust and do good. This is like the great old hymn “Trust and Obey.” What is the result? “Dwell in the land and cultivate faithfulness.” I like to think of it this way: “Live on His faithfulness.” The focus is on Him, and He takes care of the rest. In verse four, we have this great promise that the more we think like Him (delight in Him), the more He can give us what we want. Why? Because we want what He wants. We can delight in Him through things like choosing to spend time in Bible reading and prayer, by choosing to think about Him, and by choosing to obey Him by turning away from sinful temptations. Verse five is another great assurance: commit your way to the Lord and trust in Him while doing so, and you won’t have to worry about it. And what will He do? Verse six says He will grow us in becoming more like Him so that we have no fear of judgment.
- Ask God to grow you in the areas of trusting in Him, delighting in Him, and committing your way to Him.
- Ask God if there are any areas where you are keeping the control of your life back from Him instead of committing your way to Him.
- Ask God to grow our church in our willingness to commit our way to Him!
- Ask God to keep growing you in righteousness.
- I am looking forward to seeing you at church today as we study this passage!
